Our Journey

In 2020, the women of Qamishli came together to create a safe space for themselves and their community. We started as an informal group, and every activity we undertook was powered by the efforts of our volunteers and the donations of our local community.

We did not wait for external aid. Four full years of volunteer work (2020-2024) were our true school.

Milestones in Our Journey

  • 2020-2024: Four years of purely volunteer work.
  • April 2024 : We obtained official registration.
  • 2025: First institutional partnership with the "Mediterranean Women's Fund.
  • 2026: We joined the Syrian women's civil society delegation for dialogue with the United Nations.

Our Goals 2026–2027

  • Advance Survivor-Centered Transitional Justice: Deepen documentation of women's experiences during the conflict, and push for transitional justice approaches that place women's priorities at the center of the national process, not as an afterthought. .
  • Expand Community Dialogue and Social Peace: Facilitated sessions bringing together women, men, and youth from different backgrounds to build the trust any durable peace process requires.
  • Launch Media Literacy and Counter Hate Speech Programming: Equip women to critically evaluate information, recognize rumors and incitement, and participate in the media space as informed actors rather than targets.
  • Expand Vocational Training: New cohorts and tracks based on outcomes from 2025 graduates.
  • Sustain Community Programs and Strengthen Protection: Preserve the independence of our community-based funding, and complete external audit arrangements.

Financial Transparency & Safeguarding

We believe full transparency toward donors, partners, and the communities we serve is fundamental to our work. Operating for over four years entirely on community donations and volunteer effort, before any external funding, demonstrated financial discipline and community accountability from day one.

Financial Transparency

Documented internal controls cover the authorization, disbursement, and reconciliation of every transaction, reviewed annually by the Board. Detailed financial reports and the most recent audited statements are available on request for donors, and external audit arrangements are in development as the organization grows.

Safeguarding Policy

An adopted Safeguarding Policy, reviewed annually, and a Code of Conduct binding all staff and volunteers since formal registration in April 2024. A Designated Safeguarding Focal Point sits within the leadership team, with a direct reporting line to the Board. .

Confidential Reporting

A dedicated WhatsApp line and a secure institutional email allow beneficiaries, staff, volunteers, and the community to raise concerns without fear of retaliation. Every report is acknowledged within 48 hours, investigated under documented protocols, and resolved through processes that preserve the safety and dignity of the person concerned.

Our Core Values

Empowerment

We do not deliver services to passive beneficiaries; we transfer skills, resources, and decision-making authority to women themselves. Every program is designed to leave participants with greater capacity, confidence, and autonomy than before.

Inclusivity

We serve women and girls across the full diversity of our communities, without discrimination based on background, religion, displacement status, age, or disability. Our programs are deliberately designed to reach the most marginalized women, including displaced women, female heads of households, and women with disabilities.

Protection

We place the safety, dignity, and rights of every beneficiary at the center of our work. We have adopted a comprehensive safeguarding policy, a confidential reporting line, and a dedicated safeguarding focal point within our leadership — to ensure no woman or girl is exposed to harm through her contact with us.

Sustainability

We build lasting capacities, not temporary aid — our vocational training is grounded in genuinely market-relevant skills. Institutionally, we maintain our community-funded model alongside select institutional partnerships, so that no single donor becomes indispensable to our continuity.
